Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah threw an open challenge to PM Modi. This is what happened next.

With the Karnataka assembly elections literally knocking the doors, both BJP and Congress are trying their best to gain supremacy over the south Indian state. While Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is contesting to be re-elected in the position, BJP’s chief ministerial candidate is BS Yeddyurappa.

Initiating a fresh lease of attack on the opposition party in the state, BJP, Siddaramaiah recently threw an open challenge to the Prime Minister of India, which mainly revolved around the upcoming Karnataka elections. According to Siddaramaiah, being a chief minister is a great responsibility and, hence, only “an untainted person” should be allowed to contest for such an important position.

According to Siddaramaiah, while PM Modi talks large on the issues of corruption in the erstwhile UPA government, he does not have the due credibility to address corruption in his own party. It may be noted here that Yeddyurappa was once a convicted felon, and had even jailed for allegedly denotifying land in and around Bangalore for personal benefits. However, he was acquitted of all charges in 2016.

In a tweet recently made by him, Siddaramaiah threw an open challenge to PM Modi, urging him to initiate a “fight against corruption” by appointing Lok Pal and also initiating a probe into the mysterious death of CBI Judge Justice BS Loya –

It may be recalled that a few days back, Narendra Modi had criticized the Congress government in the state and said:

Corruption and misgovernance are rampant. Every section of society, including farmers, youth, neo-middle class, and the middle class are unhappy.

Later, while addressing the media, Siddaramaiah said:

Dear Narendra Modi, being the Prime Minister of the country your words should carry high credibility. I would, therefore, request you to substantiate your allegation that ‘corruption and mis-governance are rampant in Karnataka’ with facts.

However, Siddaramaiah’s tweet drew in quite flak towards him. Many people took to the microblogging site to condemn the words of the chief minister.

What is your take on the open challenge directed towards the PM by Siddaramaiah? Please share your opinion on this with us in the comments section below.
